Addiction and emotional dysregulation are complex issues that many individuals struggle with. Fortunately, modern evidence-based tools are available to assist in addressing these challenges. As a licensed clinical social worker, I am dedicated to incorporating these tools into my practice to provide the best care possible for my clients.

One effective tool that has shown great promise in the treatment of addiction and emotional dysregulation is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to these issues. By working with a therapist trained in CBT, individuals can learn new coping strategies and skills to better manage their emotions and behaviors. Another valuable tool in treating addiction is mindfulness-based therapy. This approach encourages individuals to be present in the moment, non-judgmentally, and to cultivate self-awareness and self-compassion. By practicing mindfulness, individuals can develop a greater understanding of their triggers for addictive behaviors and learn to respond to these triggers in a healthier way. In addition to therapy, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) can be a crucial component of addiction recovery for some individuals. MAT involves the use of FDA-approved medications in combination with therapy to help manage cravings and withdrawal symptoms. This approach has been shown to improve treatment outcomes and reduce the risk of relapse. It is essential to recognize that each individual is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. That is why I take a personalized approach to treatment, tailoring evidence-based tools to meet the specific needs and goals of each client. If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction or emotional dysregulation, know that there is help available. By incorporating modern evidence-based tools into therapy, we can work together to address these challenges and move towards a healthier and more fulfilling life.
